I thought I got no respect. Here’s the dictionary.com definition of short:

Man, oh man. Is it any wonder lots of short people have issues? Short. Rudely brief; abrupt. Short. Easily provoked. Short. Inadequate; insufficient. But if the dictionary isn’t bad enough, just look at some of our common usages of the word.
When you don’t get all of your money back or when the deal was no good for you, you got SHORT CHANGED.
When something electrical doesn’t work, it is SHORT CIRCUITED.
When you’re in bad condition, you’re SHORT OF BREATH.
When you don’t have enough money, you’re simply SHORT.
When you don’t have enough staff to do the job, you’re SHORT HANDED.
When you can pay attention, you have a SHORT ATTENTION SPAN.
When you aggravate easily, you’re SHORT TEMPERED.
When you don’t have a great deal of mental ability to foresee the consequences of your actions, you’re SHORT SIGHTED.
When you have to get done quickly, you CUT SHORT what you are doing.
